
Scrupulous notes and records and
photographs were kept of the prisoners in
Auschwitz I together with the date of imprisonment, and then the date of
death.
This orderliness was not practised at the second camp which was to be
built
one and a half kilometres away at Birkenau: a true death camp dealing
with
huge numbers of people arriving daily by rail and which was built to
address the
'Jewish Question'.
